Here are some ways that will help you optimise your network experience during peak usage periods or in congested locations.
1. Limit background data usage
Disable automatic app and system updates, cloud backup (e,g. iCloud and Google Drive) and other background data activities such as location services, social media updates and notifications.
2. Enable data-saving settings
Many mobile devices will have data-saving features that help limit the amount of data used and lessen the stress on the network.
iPhone: Go to ‘Settings’ > 'Mobile Service' > 'Data Mode' > Select ‘Low Data Mode’.
Android: Go to ‘Settings’> ‘Network & Internet’ > ‘Data Saver’ > Turn on ‘Data Saver’.
Watching videos in a lower resolution setting will also help lessen the stress on the network.
3. Switch network connection mode
Try switching between cellular networks e.g., 4G, 5G.
iPhone: Go to ‘Settings’ > 'Mobile Service' > 'Voice & Data' > Select your preferred network connection mode.
Android: Go to ‘Settings’ > 'Connections' > 'Mobile Networks' > Network Mode > Select your preferred network connection mode.
4. Utilise Wi-Fi Calling feature (VoWiFi)
This feature will allow you to call and text as per usual using Wi-Fi connected to your device.
Enable this feature by follow the steps available below:
iPhone: Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Mobile Service’ > Look for ‘Wi-Fi Calling’ > Toggle on ‘Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone’.
